Angela Hughes

Angela Hughes was born in Darlington and studied painting at Newcastle University and the Royal Academy Schools in London, she returned to the region in 1992 and, in pursuing her career as a professional artist, has received several major awards. Notable amongst them are the Gilchrist Fisher Memorial Award - Cadogan Contemporary, London, a Northern Electric Art Award and more recently, an Arts Council North East Encore Award.

Recent projects include a residency at Swan Hunters Shipyard 2000 - 05. A research project at The British School at Rome where she produced a series of drawings at The Sanctuary to Hercules at Tivoli, and Hadrians Villa. Her work is housed in many public and private collections both here, in Europe and America.
