Northern Footprints ‘11

A celebration of printmaking presenting original works by Northern Print artists all measuring one square foot

Exhibition opens from 26 November 2011 - 04 February 2012

Northern Print is set to unveil it’s Northern Footprints ‘11 exhibition to the public on Saturday 26 November 2011, showcasing a collection of prints by studio artists exploring beautiful, quirky and intriguing themes, all brought to life on one square foot of paper.

Nearly 50 studio artists are taking part in Northern Footprints, and the exhibition includes work from North East artists such as Iain Duncan with his atmospheric photogravures and Susan Dobson with her monoprints inspired by her worldwide mountain treks, as well as many other old favourites and new faces. The prints in the show are fantastically diverse, with images including a polar bear admiring the Northern Lights, an exotic Ibiza beach scene and even a Christmas Elf!

All art is for sale, with a number of pieces coming in at the £100 mark and eligible for the Arts Council’s interest free Own Art scheme. There is also the chance to browse and buy from Northern Print’s huge selection of original prints by artists from all over the world.

Northern Print Director, Anna Wilkinson, said: “There is certainly something for everyone at our latest exhibition. It is a fitting celebration of the breadth and talent of artists working at Northern Print week in week out, throughout the year”.

Following the successful introduction of the ‘Purchase Prize’ scheme in 2007 – whereby businesses have the first opportunity to select and buy their favourite pieces of work from the exhibition whilst enjoying other sponsorship benefits such as brand association and PR – Northern Print has opened up this offer once again with an already impressive take up.

Businesses signed up to award purchase prizes this year include; Bishop Skinner Insurance Brokers; Do It for You; Green Dragon; Peter Weldon & Co; Reid Framing, Sumo and Toffee Factory.

Northern Footprints previews on Friday 25thNovember and will be opened by Tony Durcan, Director of Culture, Libraries and Lifelong Learning at Newcastle City Council.

Also on show will be the 8-metre long linocut printed as part of the ‘Stupendous Steamroller Printing Event’ which took place in October 2011 as part of International Print Biennale. This amazing print was created by adults and children who drew and cut their designs on the 8 metre long piece of lino at Northern Print which depicts the River Tyne and surrounding city life.

The exhibition opening coincides with the Ouseburn Open Studio Weekend, an festive annual event which caters for people of all ages. Northern Print is one of many venues taking part and will be extending a warm welcome to all visitors who can not only see this wonderfully diverse exhibition, but also look behind the scenes and see the printing presses in action and then have a go themselves. It is also the perfect opportunity for visitors to make a print and take it away with them.

Alongside the Northern Footprints exhibition, and throughout the Ouseburn Open Studio Weekend will be a range of gift ideas available - perfect for Christmas - including prints on paper; jewellery & ceramics.
