Following the successful introduction of the ‘Purchase Prize’ scheme in 2007 – whereby businesses have the first opportunity to select and buy their favourite pieces of work from the exhibition whilst enjoying other sponsorship benefits such as brand association and PR – Northern Print has opened up this offer once again with an already impressive take up.

As well as having the pleasure of owning their favourite piece of work, the businesses involved will be directly supporting a cultural organisation and the regional artists involved. Sponsors already signed up include Chromazone, Hall Construction, Peter Weldon & Co, Reid Framing, The Solution Group and Bishop Skinner Insurance Brokers – four of which take part for the second year running.
Adam Lopardo, Director of The Sponsor’s Club for Arts & Business, announced the sponsors’ chosen artists at Northern Print’s special preview event on 13th November. Adam said: “Having art in the office makes a statement to two important groups – clients and staff. Art helps build a quality welcoming environment for visitors and staff as well as stimulating creativity in staff. In addition, these businesses are buying work by regional artists from a regional arts organization and reaching far wider than just the workplace. They are helping sustain a vibrant creative community in the North East which impacts on where we all live, not just where their staff work and clients visit.”
The artists whose prints were selected by the businesses include Joanna Bourne, Mary Wallace, Catherine Stott, Mikhak Mirmahmoudi, Alan Barnfather and Imi Maufe.
‘Northern Footprints’ offers visitors to the gallery a truly inclusive exhibition of contemporary prints by some of the studios 180 member artists. Prints are made using every process imaginable from wood engravings and etchings to screenprints and lithographs. The imagery is equally varied including landscapes, seascapes, exterior and interior studies alongside snake skins, beetles, midges and pies and even a bare bottom and a dog carrying a candle! Over 35 artists took part in the challenge to produce an exciting square-foot print – hence the name of the exhibition.
Northern Print Director, Anna Wilkinson, said: “Visitors can certainly expect the unexpected at our latest exhibition. There is bound to be something in the show to suit every taste and budget. It’s a celebration of the artistic talent and diversity that is nurtured within the studio and it’s great to see more and more businesses supporting this work through the Purchase Prize scheme. We are still able to offer profile opportunities within the gallery and sneak previews of the work on display to any other organisations who would like to sign up to the scheme.”
