Printmaking classes and courses at Northern Print

Collagraph Printing
Over two evenings participants learnt how to make and print a collagraph. Collagraph printing is a very sculptural printmaking technique that uses found textures and throw away materials to create deeply embossed prints, that can be printed in several different ways.

Photo-Litho
Master printmaker, Lee Turner taught this two day course. This technique uses traditional lithographic printing methods with the added bonus of transferring images using a light sensitive plate. Lee has many years of printmaking experience in all aspects of traditional printmaking techniques, and a TMP (Tamarind Master Printer Certificate) from Tamarind Institute, University of New Mexico. He founded Hole Editions in 2005, with premises at the Mushroom Works, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Colour Monoprinting
This one day workshop explored the subtlety and vibrancy of colour and texture through monoprinting.

Drypoint
Drypoint is a process of drawing directly into a metal plate, the 'burr' thrown up by the drawing will hold ink which will then be transferred onto paper when printed using an etching press.

Japanese Woodblock Printing
For the first time, Paul Furneaux taught Japanese woodblock printing at Northern Print. Paul has a wealth of experience in Japanese woodblock which he studied at Tama Art University, Tokyo on a Monbusho scholarship from 1997 - 2000. Paul has a varied, painterly approach to the technique and encourages participants to find their own approach once they have learned the basics.
