This latest exhibition reinforces the diverse nature of work on offer through Northern Print’s studio and printmaking facilities, and features prints made in the past twelve months by artists from the North East to Japan, including Eunice Routledge, Bridget Jones, Donald Wilkinson and Hiroyuki Suzuki. Some of the work going on display has been produced especially for this exhibition.

The themes explored are wide-ranging and audiences will experience a sense of time and place, the quirky and the curious, rich colours, a fallen angel and even a yeti! The techniques used are also varied and include screen prints, relief prints, etchings and wood engravings. All works are available both to view and buy.

This is the 7th exhibition to be held at Northern Print’s Ouseburn-based galleries and studio, and commemorates a year of significant achievement for the organisation. Director Anna Wilkinson comments:

“Northern Print’s first year in Ouseburn has flown by, with so many new and established artists making wonderful prints. 145 artists have joined the studio; we have delivered 70 classes and courses to adults and children; shown the work of 40 artists from the region, South Africa, Japan and the USA; hosted talks and print demonstrations; arranged master classes with some of the very best practitioners in the UK; delivered eight bursaries to artists from the region and generally enjoyed the many ways in which printmaking can enhance our lives. We are now looking forward to 2008 and beyond.”

The exhibition has prompted interest from regional businesses resulting in sponsorship of a number of prints, the details of which will be unveiled on the preview night. In sponsoring these prints and bringing art into the workplace, artists will reach a wider audience whilst obtaining valuable financial support. Businesses involved include Bishop Skinner International Insurance Brokers, Hacel Lighting, Living North, Newcastle Furniture Company, Peter Weldon and Co, Reid Framing and The Solution Group. This input highlights the continued growth of arts and business partnerships, and the number of organisations keen to invest in the region’s artistic talent.

The exhibition will be opened by Dr Tom Shakespeare, Chair of Arts Council England North East, which has played a key funding role in Northern Print’s ongoing development through annual revenue grants and investment in the Ouseburn premises and first year exhibitions.

In addition to the exhibition, there will be a number of new, unframed prints available to buy, and Northern Print’s festive gift selection will also be on offer.
