screen printing

This is a stencil process. A screen covered in a fine mesh is used to make a stencil. The stencil can be made using a photographic or computer -generated 'positive', or a drawn 'positive'. A 'positive' is the original image that you wish to use to print.

The stencil blocks in areas of the mesh and leaves others open. Then ink is forced through the open areas of the mesh screen onto the paper using a squeegee.

Images can be formed by overprinting different stencils with different-coloured opaque and transparent inks.
