Costs of using the studio

To use the studio you must be a member. Membership costs £40/£20 concessions for the year. Once a member you pay very little to use the studio in 'sessions' as sessions are subsidised by Arts Council England.

Session fees
There are a number of ways you can pay for your sessions, depending upon how frequently you use the studio.

Half day / evening £6.00 full price  £5.00 concession
Full day  £10.00 full price  £8.00 concession
Month   £70.00 full price  £55.00 concession

Session fees include the following benefits: 

       • Access to basic inks, chemicals etc.
       • Technical support (most days)
       • Access to recent arts publications
       • Tea and coffee

There is an extra fee for the use of screenprinting, which will be charged in addition to the normal session fee. This is to reflect the greater cost of providing these facilities.

Screenprinting fee
Half day / evening £3.00
Full day  £5.00

Hourly Charges
If you do not need to use any bookable equipment, you can drop in and use the studio by the hour. E.g., to prepare an etching plate or screen ready to print.

Screenprinting  £3/hour £2.70 conc.  Etching, photo-etching £2 / hour £1.70 conc.

Editioning Room
The editioning room has an electric press (Bewick & Wilson), hotplate and access to other printmaking materials and consumables.
Full day  £25.00 full price  £20.00 concession

G4 Computer and printer
There is also access to a G4 computer, which has photoshop and an A3 inkjet printer.
Full day  £10.00 full price  £8.00 concession
Half day / evening £6.00 full price  £5.00 concession

Supported sessions
These sessions take place on Thursday evenings (6pm to 8.30pm) and are designed to act like mini-classes when special technical support is provided or a particular aspect of a process is demonstrated e.g. pigment mixing. The sessions are provided in response to requests from studio users and can cover all printmaking areas. Supported sessions must be booked in advance.

Supported sessions cost £10 full price / £8 concession

Other charges
On occasion Northern Print staff can carry out specific tasks for studio users, e.g. preparing plates or cleaning screens. The charge for this service is £25 per hour.
